    Join us for this exciting event!

    This interactive session will offer a space and process for participants to enhance their capacity to offer culturally-attentive and equity-minded care and services to diverse clients. Special attention will be given to illuminating the shifting meanings and value of the concepts of cultural competence and cultural humility in the delivery of culturally responsive services. Participants will apply prior and new knowledge to case scenarios relevant to their professional practice.

    PRESENTATION OBJECTIVES:

    • Participants will enhance their cultural self-awareness
    • Participants will develop greater intercultural intelligence and skillfulness
    • Participants will increase this capacity to offer culturally responsive services
    • Participants will understand the concepts of cultural competence, cultural humility, and trustworthiness and essential building blocks of rapport building, inclusivity, and equity

    Andrew Williams
    National Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion - Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation

    Andrew Williams is the National Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation. For thirty years, Andrew has worked at the intersections of cultural anthropology, higher education leadership, community-based learning, and global education to advance racial justice, environmental justice, food security, as well as educational and health equity in both the U.S. and abroad. Prior to his arrival at the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, Williams served as Assistant Vice-Chancellor at the University of Minnesota Rochester providing strategic leadership for efforts to center access, equity, and public health in the university’s vision of health sciences education. As Hazelden Betty Ford’s first National Director of DEI, Andrew leads the execution of the Foundation’s DEI strategy, including efforts to build a diverse and inclusive workplace and to accelerate health and recovery equity for all those struggling with substance use disorder.
